What is a lumen vs lux? ›

The concepts of lux and lumen are closely related. While lumens measure the amount of light emitted by a source, luxes determine the same amount of light, but are projected onto a surface. Therefore, one lux is equivalent to one lumen per square meter.

ELFX Shadows is a new Enhanced Lights and FX addon which aims to add spectacular lighting effects and to break the limits of the Skyrim lighting engine (where possible) by increasing the number of shadowcasting lights per cell, all this without causing the slightest light flickering issue.

Enhanced Lights and FX has the goal to create a more dramatic and realistic mood to the Skyrim lights by adding lights to all light sources and removing any light without a source, as well as the addition many more effects like smoke, volumic light FX, etc.

Lux is a unit of light measurement where the area is also taken into account. 1 lux equals 1 Lumen/m2, in other words – light intensity in a specific area. Lux is used to measure the amount of light output in a given area. One lux is equal to one lumen per square meter.

Relationship between Lumens & Lux

So 1,000 lumens, concentrated into an area of one square metre, lights up that square metre with an illuminance level of 1000 lux. The same 1,000 Lumens, spread out over ten square metres, produces an illuminance level of only 100 Lux.

Highlights and Shadows sliders
